I just finished up my second pregnancy and welcomed a handsome little boy into the world! Over the course of my pregnancy and now that my little man is here, I’ve been reflecting on the miracle of pregnancy. In true Bloom Beryl fashion, I’ve written it all out. As I walked around with my belly bump growing for the past 9 months, I kept thinking that God engineered such a beautiful way for new life to enter the world. We are truly fearfully and wonderfully made, stitched together by a loving creator. Below I share my thoughts on this… “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” - Psalm 139: 13, 14 Pregnancy is truly amazing. I have a degree in biology so it’s easy for me to think in terms of cells and molecules. Take a moment and think about this - a baby begins as a cluster of a few cells and in a period of 9 months, becomes a whole human being, ready to enter the world. Consider how much development takes place from conception to delivery. Amazing. Pregnancy is a miracle. A woman gets to carry her growing baby throughout the process and her body supports the baby as he develops over time. As this process continues, the baby gets so big that the mother can even feel their child moving. A human being living inside another human being is miraculous in every way. Pregnancy is beautiful. These moments when the baby’s heartbeat is heard or kicks are felt for the first time are so moving and emotional for a mom or dad to be. Slowly over time, a bond forms between the mother and her baby as they spend an entire 9 months interconnected. It always struck me that everywhere I go, my baby goes during this time. He heard me sing. He heard me speak. He felt every movement I made. Pregnancy is a challenge. Having gone through it twice now, I’m not naïve to how challenging this journey can be. There’s a laundry list of symptoms that a woman can feel throughout the course of pregnancy – nausea/morning sickness, vomiting, fatigue, bloating, irritability, swelling. Most mothers have been through these things and experienced sleepless nights because of them. Post partum recovery can also be a challenge. Every mother’s body will be forever changed. Pregnancy is so worth it. Every single symptom listed above is worth the difficulty, knowing that a new little life will come from it. We should never take our moms for granted, knowing they have literally sacrificed their entire bodies for us to exist. Pregnancy is a way to glimpse who God is. God shows us who He is in pregnancy, labor, and delivery – His majestic creative power, His matchless grace, and His never-ending love. He has the power to knit a child together, one cell at a time in her mother’s womb. And likewise, motherhood, and parenthood in general, give us an opportunity to sacrifice for our children and love them the way Christ loves us. The love an earthly mother has for her children reflects the love that God has for us – selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. “Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast. From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.”
- Psalm 22: 9, 10 This blog post goes out to all the mamas out there. What a process that we get to go through! We get to physically carry our babies until they are ready to enter the world and start life. As new life enters the world, this process is amazing, miraculous, beautiful, challenging, and ultimately, a glimpse into who God is. I pray that every baby bump we see or experience from now on is a reminder that God loves us. <3 Beryl Photos were shot and edited by Mckaylee Wilburn Photo: www.mckayleewilburnphoto.com/ www.instagram.com/mckayleewilburnphoto/
